All Metal Alloys
ferrous and non-ferrous, are castable in the Sand Casting process. This fact coupled with low
tooling cost make this the process of choice for low-volume products or new items where volume
is unpredictable. Its drawbacks are the wider tolerances (+/- 1/32") and much heavier wall
thickness' than are required by die or investment casting. Where close tolerances, thin walls and
smooth surface finish are not required, sand casting is often the most economical means of
production. Good casting integrity (lack of porosity) machinability, and low initial tooling costs
characterize this process.
